Meditation

My first earnest attempt at a meditation practice was in college when I got swept up into the Transcendental Meditation movement.  At the time I viewed the TM technique as a unique scientific approach to improving your mind. Only later, after exposure to other meditation techniques and programs, did I start to see that all meditation techniques, including TM, are based on a common understanding of the need to quiet the mind.
